Sound! Stop! Listen! Think about it!

We are surrounded by sound every day, some pleasant, some, not so pleasant. Some might say “music to my ears”. Others might say …”I don’t like noise. I prefer quiet”.
Those of us who have normal hearing can think of many sounds we enjoy, sometimes more than others. Those of us who are hearing impaired, can think of sounds we wished we could hear clearer, better.

I am going to list some sounds that I enjoy and appreciate. You might think of some you don’t like (alarm clocks, sirens, car horns), but all convey meaning and are important.

I’m guessing you’ll agree with some of my favorite sounds. Let me know what some of yours’ are. Let’s see if we can come up with a Top 10 list.

  • Birds singing
  • Ocean waves
  • Rustling leaves
  • Church bells
  • Babies “cooing”
  • Girls giggling
  • Boys laughing
  • Rain on a tin roof
  • Fire crackling in a fireplace
  • Children playing outside in the neighborhood
  • Marching band in a parade
  • Basketballs dribbling on a hardwood gym floor
  • The sound of the twine as the ball swishes through the net
  • The roar of engines at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • The “crack” of a bat
  • The “pop” of a fastball in a catcher’s mitt
  • The voice of a loved one on the other end of the phone

Yes, I know I listed more than 10, but I would still like to hear about yours. Share with me below.
